Around the middle of this month, Samsung officially announced the rollout of One UI 5.1.1 to its older foldables, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold4, which got it the day after. One UI 5.1.1 is the build that shipped on the new Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, and it brings some additional features that could prove quite useful.
Samsung promised that the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 would receive an update to One UI 5.1.1 in due course, and the rollout has started today in Europe and Asia.
The new build is F926BXXU5FWH5 for the Fold3 and F711BXXU6FWH3 for the Flip3. With the update, you get the August 2023 security patch level and a bunch of new stuff.
Both the Fold3 and the Flip3 get better app previews on the Recents screen, an easier way to switch from pop-up view to split screen, and the ability to restore pop-ups snapped to the edge of the screen. Additionally, more apps can use Flex Mode, and the customizable Flex Mode toolbar with improved Flex Mode media controls.
The Quick Share feature has been improved, while Samsung Health gets better sleep coaching, skin temperature measurements during sleep, as well as improved workout summaries, goals, rewards, and badges.
There are now more date and time styles for watermarks in the Camera app, enhanced remaster previews, easier to apply effects, and you can copy and paste filters and tones from one image to another.
You can drag and drop with two hands, Samsung Internet has had some layout improvements, Device Care has enhanced memory management, and My Files shows app cache information.
The Fold3 gets some additional goodies, like an enhanced Flex Mode layout for the camera’s Pro modes, a new option to select multiple pictures in Capture View, and you can hover the S Pen above a floating app icon to see a preview of said app.
As usual with updates, keep in mind that the rollout might be staged, so it could take a few days (or more) for the new builds to reach all of the Fold3 and Flip3 units out there in the wild.
