vivo released the Android 14 beta for the vivo X90 Pro in May and announced the Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14 Preview Program for the smartphone in September. Today, vivo officially launched Funtouch OS 14 and shared a list of vivo smartphones eligible for the upgrade in India along with the timeline for the rollout of the beta version.
The list includes 30+ smartphones, with the vivo X90 and X90 Pro getting beta updates in mid-October. These will be followed by the X80 Pro in mid-November, with the X80, V29 Pro, V29, V27 Pro, and V27 receiving the updates in December. You can check the image below for the complete list with the rollout timeline.
iQOO also shared its roadmap for the Funtouch OS 14 beta’s release in India. Over a dozen iQOO smartphones are eligible for the upgrade, with the iQOO 11 being the first in line to get a taste of Funtouch OS 14. The update will be released today, so those interested can enroll in the beta program later today. You can check the picture below for the complete roadmap. Also, note that iQOO won’t release Funtouch OS 14 for the Z5 and older models.
Funtouch OS 14 primarily focuses on five areas – Personalisation, Productivity, Multi-tasking, Smoothness, and Privacy.
For personalization, you now get three clock layouts on the lock screen with eight font styles and a smart color selection. You can also apply a monochromatic color palette to the system to match your wallpapers. It’s based on the Material You design and is called MY Color Palette.
Moreover, 90+ Always-On Display styles are available in the Theme Store now, and you can also select different ringtones for different SIM cards.
In the productivity department, you now have new video editing tools, allowing original quality, lossless video export. You can also export videos in up to 4K resolution at 60 FPS. Moreover, there are 25 new filters for video editing, which are all presented in improved thumbnails.
The video playback experience has also been improved since you can now adjust video playback speed, loop playback, and capture screenshots.
For multi-tasking, you have a Mini Window that makes multi-tasking easier by reducing the app to a small window that remains active in the background and can be moved around on the screen while you are using another app. It supports side-swipe suspension, and you can have up to 12 small windows active in the background.
Funtouch OS 14 will offer a smoother experience with its RAM Saver, Extended RAM 3.0, Motion Blur, and App Retainer features. RAM Saver will release up to 600MB of space for fast start-up of multiple apps, while Extended RAM 3.0 will let you have up to 36 apps active in the background on a 12GB RAM smartphone (up to 27 apps with 8GB RAM).
App Retainer, on the other hand, will ensure the 100+ whitelisted apps that are in the background and not closed manually are restored to their last interface so users can continue where they left off, providing an interruption-free experience. This feature isn’t entirely new, though, since iQOO already introduced it with the iQOO Neo7 Pro. However, App Retainer on the Neo7 Pro doesn’t support Facebook, which is one of the most popular apps, and when we asked iQOO about it, we were told it could be added to the list of whitelisted apps in the future.
Talking about Motion Blur, this feature will offer a smooth animation during app switching by 18.7% at a 60Hz refresh rate.
Lastly, we have Privacy, which is now ensured with improved App Hiding and password protection for hidden photos and Screen Mirroring. The Screen Mirroring feature will prevent notification pop-ups, so your information isn’t revealed when the phone content is mirrored on another device.
Like App Retainer, App Hiding is not an entirely new feature but now supports Google apps.
