Samsung confirms Galaxy AI for the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, Live Translate for third-party apps

In what could possibly be described as the least surprising development of the year, Samsung has today confirmed that it’s bringing Galaxy AI to its next generation of foldables, namely the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6. These are expected to become official in early July.

Samsung EVP & Head of Mobile R&D Office, Mobile eXperience Business Won-Joon Choi penned a blog post today in which he confirmed that the company plans to “further optimize the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices”. He said: “Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities”.

Samsung wants to revolutionize mobile experiences “with a hybrid AI approach”, which it believes “is the most practical and reliable solution” to meet the needs of consumers and “put Samsung ahead of the curve”. The hybrid thing consists of providing users with “a balance between the instant responsiveness and extra privacy assurance of on-device AI and the versatility of cloud-based AI through open collaborations with industry-leading partners in offering a variety of functions they need for daily life”.

Soon, Samsung will be expanding its Live Translate AI feature to third-party message apps to support voice calls. This will be integrated into Samsung’s on-device AI language translation model, so you’ll be able to use it “without worrying about privacy issues like personal data being shared” outside of your phone when using Live Translate.

Choi expects that more and more mobile AI features will become contained on-device as the power of NPUs keeps advancing “at a blazing fast speed”.
