Most of you have a glass screen protector and a silicone case on your phone, based on the results from last week’s poll. Things haven’t changed much from two years ago, although the relative popularity of some things has shifted.
Let’s start with the protector – nearly half of users have a glass one on their phone. This also means that we heard a lot of complaints about curved screens in the comments. Those make applying a glass protector troublesome (and the protectors themselves are pricier than flat ones).
The plastic screen protector rose in popularity compared to the 2021 poll, though it remains a very distant second. Still, now a self-applied plastic protector is a more popular choice than just keeping whatever protector was installed at the factory (it was the other way around two years ago).
Based on the comment section, most of you don’t have faith that naked Gorilla Glass is strong enough against scratches and cracks. Even so, a quarter of all voters think it is in fact enough and use no extra protection.
Moving on to the cases, again half of you have a silicone case. That was the most popular option back in 2021 and it is even more so now. Meanwhile, thin cases have fallen off a bit and are now as common as bulky rugged cases. Fancy cases – ones made of leather or with extra features – are not particularly popular.
When it comes to phone protection, a case is basically a must-have – only around 1 in 10 go without a case. That’s a lot less compared to the number of people without a screen protector.
The final question in the poll was around subscription services like AppleCare+ and Samsung Care+. Those cost a monthly fee but promise a much cheaper screen replacement. Very few people use those (less than 7%), perhaps because the cases and protectors do a good enough job and screen replacements are rarely needed.
